Self Evaluation

Evaluation
Peer- review Evaluation
Me and my partner practiced my final design for my Elizabethan themed unit more times for hair than I did for the makeup. I felt the hair design was much trickier than the makeup so therefore I wanted to practice it more. I demonstrated how to do the hair first before my partner then practiced it. She found it difficult to keep the hair piece tight on my head and had to redo it a few times before it was correct. I felt my partner looked really professional she had her hair tied up and short sleeves on. She washed her hands before and used antibacterial hand gel. I felt confident with her working on my design as we had practiced before and the outcome looked great. I felt the makeup was done well but I would have changed the shape of the eyebrows as I didn’t feel they were identical. I learnt from my partner better technique with applying the base foundation as she did it very evenly with her brush strokes. I felt overall my partner did my final design very well especially the hair she followed all my instruction really well and I was very proud of my final design.
Self Evaluation
My initial reaction to my partner’s design was that I thought the hair was going to be very difficult but I was excited about the makeup and especially using lace on the face. I thought the hair would be difficult as she wanted to create a collar made out of hair but that concern soon went away when I practiced it. I found my crimping technique was better and separating the hair was too. Instead of using lace I would have bought some specific lace for the face to make the design look professional.

Overall I’m happy with the final images and happy with the overall outcome.

My Final Look

These are my final images of my Elizabethan Themed Unit. I'm really happy with the overall outcome. I really like how I've been completely transformed and I think my partner did a really amazing job.

I thought I would wear a top with large shoulders to make it more Elizabethan themed.

I'm really happy with the overall outcome but some things could have been made better such as the eyebrows weren't as thin as they could have been. I liked the darker green lips than the green we used on the practice ones.

My Partners Final Look

I really liked the final outcome of her look and she seemed really happy with the end result. The hair and make up worked really well together. I wasn't sure on how the lace would work but it worked really well. And I'm happy with the fact you can still see the make up through the lace.

The plum lipstick worked well with the lace and I liked how the eyes are really dark and then the eyebrows were white. Overall I was really happy with the end result it was a great design.

My Practice Final Look

This was my practice look. I found that I didn't really like the green eyelashes and the green eyebrows. I thought the make up looked quite plain and dull. I did however liked the colour match of the row of flowers with the make up. They went really well together.

My Partners Look

This is my partners design that she wishes me to do on her. This is her face chart she wants lace coming down across one side of her face. Her make up is going to be quite simple. She wants her eyebrows to be white and she wants black eye liner and mascara. She also wants her lips to be a plum colour.

This is out first practice. I put on a plain base. But I mainly concentrated on getting her eyebrows correct and the eye liner correct. We also practiced the lace and where it would tie to.

This is the side view. As you can see the eye liner comes out to make patters. And her eyebrows can be bairly seen to make the look more Elizabethan.

Final Face Chart and Why

3 Final Face charts

This is my first face chart inspired by paperself eyelashes. I really liked using the paperself eyelashes and I liked the texture they created. I also wanted to add high eyebrows and thin to create a Elizabethan look. I liked the idea of having a high cupid bow but with a contemporary twist of crossing a fine pink line across the upper lip. The materials I used were screenface base foundation mixed with white Illamasque foundation. I used the green and pink Kryolan Supracolor palette to create the lips. I used the thin lip liner brush to do the lips. To finish off I powdered with the Illamasque powder.

Here I created a much more messy look. When I tried this out on my face I did not like it at all. It looked messy and the clash of gold and blue did not work at all. However it did look good on the facechart. I used Illmasque white foundation mixed with the Supracolor palette for lips and eyes. Using mascara wands to push up the eyebrows to make them bushy and black.

I did like this colour chart mainly because of the cat like eyes. I didn't think this was very Elizabethan but I enjoyed creating this face chart.

Creating a Contemporay Elizabethan Make Up

  • ·       I chose to do I dark contemporary Elizabethan look as I felt my model would suit darker makeup.
  • ·       I felt the lips were a good colour but I could have blended the lip liner with the lipstick better.
  • ·       I also felt the same with the eyes. I should have blended the darker colours better with the lighter ones.
  • ·       Creating the smokey eyes I used my Urban Decay Naked palette. I felt my base foundation technique has improved and I liked the fact it wasn’t too pale but slightly paler than the models natural skin tone.

Practicing Lips

The lip liner on the outside must be a darker shade than the colour of the lip stick.

Here I tried using darker colours (from the screenface lip palette) in the cente and then blended the purple outwards. I really liked the look it created. I did however found it hard to make the lip liner look even all the way round the lip especially the cupids bow.

I really liked this gold look but I did not blend the lip liner enough into the gold. Therefore you can see a obvious line.

It reminds me of a god like look and therefore I don't feel this is very Elizabethan.

3 New Elizabethans

Michael Jackson know as the 'King of Pop' is one of my new Elizabethans to me as he has changed the music industry in so many ways. He is a inspiration to so many singers such as Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Mariah Carey, Sean Paul, Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, Kanye West and many many more. His main inspiration was Diana Ross whom he looked to up as a mother figure as well as a close friend. Michael Jackson has a multiple Guinness World Records, 13 Grammy Awards, A Grammy Legend Award and has estimated to have sold 400 million records world wide. Hes has been to court being accused of commiting child abuse and I think it's hard for someone in the industry to be accused of such a act and I find it amazing that he still managed to carry on making music and having amazing career after being accused for such a thing. He also has influenced dance by his dance moves 'The Moonwalk' and 'Robot' these have started a whole new genre of Hip Hop and RnB. Some of his songs such as 'Black and White' and 'Beat it' have been part of breaking down racial barriers and I think that's why he's such a inspiration to so many.
Rosa Parks was a African-American Civil right activists also know as 'The first lady of civil Rights'. She is well known for refusing to give up her seat on a bus for a white passenger after the white section was filled. She was arrested on the 1st December. After this act of defiance it become a large and important symbol to the civil rights movement. I think Rosa Parks is a new Elizabethan as she changed history in such a strong way she was a symbol of hope among African-American people.

Mark Zuckerberg is known for being the founder of facebook and he is estimated to be worth 16.8 billion pounds. Zuckerberg launched facebook in 2004 in his harvard dorms. Intially he created a page called facemash in which you choose who is hotter out of two people. Facemash had become so popular over one night that it got shut down. In 2007 at age 23 Zuckerberg had become a billionaire and by 2012 facebook had 1 billion people using it. I think Mark Zuckerberg is a new Elizabethan because he is one of the wealthiest and most influential people in the world. He has managed to create a site that is used by 1/7th of the population that is astronomical.

Using Paperself

Here I applied purple to the eyebrows and lips. Then using purple I contoured the cheek bones.

I added yellow eye shadow to the eye and the eye lash.

Underneath I applied the scorpion paper eyelash. I found there was too much happening above the eye to place the eye lashes there I then contoured down the eyes using yellow eye shadow.

Paperself

Different types of Paperself lashes. Paperself is a London brand by Chunwei Liao. They are eco friendly in the way they use paper. It's a new paper revolution of which many stars have used and has been included in The Hunger Games.

Edward Bond

Edward Bond ‘The Third Crisis: Drama and Civilization ’
“The first Elizabethan age ended with the discovery of brave new worlds (and incidentally the joining up of the United Kingdom). We are certainly on the edge of vast new unprecedented worlds, cosmic changes in culture, economy and society (and ironically the possible dissolution of the United Kingdom). But are our new worlds brave, cowardly, explorative or degenerative? It could be said the old Elizabethans plundered the new worlds. Perhaps now we can only plunder ourselves and call it trade."

Eye Charts

Eyes and Lips with Sue

Here Sue showed us how to prepare the eyes and where the place the make up on the eye. Each eye has a different shape so you need to use the eye chart and also your general preference on what would look good on the client.
Looking at the eye chart I made a decision that these were small eyes. Therefore the make up I used had to make these eyes look larger. Using darker shades around the end of the eyes made them look larger as well as using eye liner. I used eye shadow from Urban Decay naked pallet.

Digital Production Final (practice make up)

Before

After- I wanted to practice ideas of what the final make up was going to look like on my shoot. I liked the texture of spray of face paint on the face. But I wasn't happy with the way the eyes came out and also the hair wasn't the position I wanted. For the final shoot I'm going to do striped make up spray down the face and I'm going to scrape back the pink hair so the make up stands out more.
